Hazel aka The Hizzle aka The Hizz aka Lil' Haze spends her weekend at Smith Rock

Mom and Dad love to climb, so that means that Hazel gets to go climbing- a lot.   After spending the previous weekend in Central Oregon with the grandparents, Hazel pointed her car back to points east on Friday night and headed towards Smith Rock.  Hazel had a fabulous weekend- she rode in the backpack on Dad's back, played in the dirt, tried to eat small rocks (thwarted only by the quick reactions on the part of Mom and Dad), entertained friend Sally (henceforth known as "The Nanny") in the back seat, relaxed in the luxury at Craig and Katie's house and tried to steal everyone's beer at Deschutes Brewery.

When Hazel undressed before her bath tonight, a pile of dirt fell out of her onesie on to the changing table.

Hazel grinned.  'Cause that means her weekend was FREAKING AWESOME.

Sicko

Hazel chose the nicest day of the year to get sick.  It was 80 degrees and sunny outside when Dad called Mom to say, "um, Hazel's not feeling so great..."  Dad told Mom he would take Hazel to Urgent Care and Mom could enjoy her afternoon, but Mom wasn't having any of that.

Poor baby.  She had a 102 degree fever and an early evening trip to Urgent Care (where it was discovered that Ms. Chunky weighs 16 pounds) resulted in a diagnosis of...nobody knows.

Sigh.
However, after returning home and taking liberal doses of baby Tylenol and Ibuprofen, Hazel was feeling more like herself.

After a trip to the pediatrician on Tuesday, Hazel was finally diagnosed with a sinus infection, the result of two months of persistent congestion.

Good thing babies bounce back so quickly.  After consistent doses of antibiotics, Hazel is feeling more like herself again, just in time to go rock climbing at Smith Rock this weekend.

Smith Rock...again!

Hazel went back to Smith Rock with her grandparents and parents on Sunday. The sun was out, the temps were warm...it was a perfect day.

Before she left for climbing, Hazel had to study the weather forecast.  It looks...blurry.

Uh...Mom?  What is that big, bright thing in the sky?

Hazel's grandmother was holding the golden key today: she was able to get Hazel to sleep ON her.  For a baby who hates to sleep anywhere near another person, this was nothing short of miraculous.

Afterwards, everyone needed a bath, including Hazel.  You know it's a good weekend when the water running down the drain is brown and full of dirt!

Mt. Bachelor

Hazel spent Saturday in a place she is very familiar with- the ski lodge.  Except this time, the ski lodge was at Mt. Bachelor and Mom and Dad got to ski in very warm temps and beautiful sun.  Everyone had a perfect day, including Hazel, who was on Day 2 of being adored by her grandparents.

Hazel took her afternoon nap on the floor.  She was pretty darn happy.

Afterwards, the whole family went to Bend where Hazel finally got some ice cream after a long day of making sure Mom and Dad didn't get too sunburned on the mountain.

It's difficult to get a family picture, so when the grandparents come to town, it's a requirement.  Look at those LOOOOONG legs.  Seriously, could the kid stop getting longer and skinnier?

After a scenic drive, an afternoon in the ski lodge, and ice cream in Bend, it was time to play dress-up with Hazel's grandmother's outfit from almost 60 years ago.

Smith Rock and the grandparents

Hazel's grandparents flew in late on Friday night and "spoil the baby" commenced early on Friday morning, followed by a trip to Central Oregon and the sunshine.  First stop: Smith Rock so Mom and Dad could rock climb and the grandparents could admire Hazel.

These two love each other.

"Mommy, why do you climb those silly rocks?  Seriously, you should just come down and hang out with ME."

Mom and Dad carried their climbing gear.  Poppy carried Hazel.  Everyone smiled.

Daddy and Hazel self-portrait

Taken at the park across the street from our house.  Daddy came home, grabbed Hazel out her high chair, threw Hazel in the backpack and took off for the park with the dog in tow.  Mom was left sitting at the kitchen table, thinking, "What the....??"

Polka dots

Taken on Daddy's Blackberry while Mom was busy at spin class and Pilates. Hazel's favorite mornings? When Mom goes to the gym and she gets to hang out with Daddy. Without a doubt.

Easter...or something like that

Hazel's family has a tradition of spending Easter at their version of church...the climbing area. But the weather was uncooperative, so everyone headed up to one of their OTHER favorite destinations: the ski area.  Mom and Dad got to pretend they were drowned rats on a very soggy, though snowy, day and Hazel played and played and played in Mt. Hood Meadows childcare.  She, of course, wore the very pretty Easter outfit her great-grandmother sent her.

And then she was happy to be home where all the toys are HERS and she doesn't have to steal them from other babies.

Swinging

Mom's friend, Erin, lives next door to an AWESOME park, so everyone went to check out the swing set.  Hazel was...kind of a fan.

Hey, this is pretty cool!  Wheeeeeeeeee!

5 seconds later: Yeah, I am kind of tired of this now.  Is there anything else to do around here?  Where are the cool kids at?

10 seconds later: I am SOOOOO over it.  Seriously, people.  I TOLD you I wanted to leave.  You never listen.  GAWD.

Frilly

Hazel recently went from owning a total of two dresses to...well, owning several, thanks to numerous friends and family. This latest installment comes from Neighbor Sue, who obviously couldn't stand to pass up what is understandably one of the best baby skirts EVER. Thanks, Sue!

Also, an update. For Easter, Hazel has received NO hair, NO teeth and NO crawling (phew! say Mom and Dad. House=NOT babyproofed). However, she did receive a tambourine and her very own set of plastic keys from Mom and Dad. Now, let's see if she thinks those toys are as cool at home as they are at daycare.

Chilling out before a long day at work. Oops, I mean daycare.

Here, you get the full effect of the outfit, right down to the pink Mary Janes. Hazel hearts her daycare and her teachers there.

Chomp chomp!

Mom spent her morning at the gym, so it was Dad's turn to get Hazel ready this morning. He was just itching to use his new Blackberry with a camera, so he took this picture of of Hazel and sent it to Mom pronto.

Like summer, but not really

Hazel may not have a yard (thank God! say Mom and Dad- they HATE yardwork), but she has something better- a whole park right next to her house.  Today, the weather was over 75 degrees (!) and all the cool people in Portland were outside, so Hazel just had to go too.

She is working on her base for her summer tan, so her daycare teachers also took her on a walk.  This sun and warm weather thing?  She could get used to this.

Staging the race

Hazel would like to apologize for the lack of updates- she has been busy.  Currently, she is in The Dalles, OR, supporting her mom and dad at the Cherry Blossom Classic, a 3-day bike race.  While Mom and Dad suffer up never-ending hills and in to relentless wind, Hazel gets to play with Ky, her new best friend.

She prefers it that way.  Hazel tried to advise Mom and Dad that stage races are silly, not to mention extremely painful, but they were stubborn and didn't listen. "Your loss," she shrugged and went back to playing in the sun.
