Junior Ski Patrol

Daddy gets his first aid review from Hazel: "So, Daddy, if someone has a compound tib-fib fracture, you should probably stop the bleeding first."

Ready and willing to come to your rescue, wherever and whenever you need her.

Sometimes ski patrollers have their own accidents (hey- they're human too!) and have to put on clean clothes.

Hazel and Daddy are satisfied with a hard day's work.  Now, where's the beer?

Sharing secrets with Daddy

"Hazel, don't tell Mommy, but I purposely dress you in mismatched clothes on the days I take you to daycare.  Shhhh...it's our secret."

"Oh, Daddy.  You're so hilarious!  Don't worry- I tell everyone that MOMMY dressed me that way!"

Practicing her voice-overs for the horror movies

Some babies babble and coo.  Hazel likes to growl.  No, really.  Watch the video.

Hazel Goes to (another) Bike Race

Hazel's shirt says "my mom is faster than your mom."  She also has one that says "my dad is faster than your dad."  Hazel and family spent the day in the sun in Albany, Oregon for the Cherry Pie Road Race.
Hazel was very popular with the ladies at the race and she spent much of her time looking at all of the busy people.  This, of course, is not Hazel's first bike race.  It's probably her 8th race and she's got a lot more in her future!
Hazel also enjoyed sitting in her new backpack.  I took this picture with the camera balanced on my head.

Goin' on a ride

Mom and Dad didn't want to go skiing today because they have their first road race of the season tomorrow and they didn't want to trash their legs.  So, they went on an easy ride instead and they made Hazel come because she can't talk yet and therefore could not disagree.
Hazel still has to use the car seat in the trailer since her head is three centimeters away from fitting in to a baby bike helmet.  She obviously doesn't care one way or the other.

On a mid-ride break, Hazel takes the opportunity to tell us something really important: it's time to eat.

So she did.  It's important to fuel up while riding.

During a sun break, Mom does her weight lifting routine.  Hazel likes to fly and she's still light enough to do so pretty easily.

Road biking is tiring.  Time for coffee.

So much to say

Hazel likes apples and bananas.  Here, she expounds upon the virtues of eating fruit for dinner.

However, she became upset just a short time later when her mom told her they were adding 10 extra minutes to her school day (her mom's, not Hazel's).  Nobody can say that Hazel doesn't have an opinion.

Pea Coat

Carolin, Eryn's friend from her childhood, gave Hazel this pea coat when she was born.  Carolin lives in Germany now (Bavaria, how cool is that) but lived in Paris when she bought this for Hazel.

She's been wearing this coat for a while now.  Initially, it was a little big for her.  But now Hazel seems to like it a lot.  She shows her approval by sucking thoughtfully on the collar and flashing the occasional giant toothless gummy grin.  Thanks Carolin!

FOOD!

Hazel started solids a few weeks ago.  And then she got sick and the process of figuring out how to eat AND breathe through her mouth at the same time kind of screwed her up.  So, we're starting over.  The current process goes like this: baby sees spoon, baby purses lips together tightly, Mom shoves spoon in mouth, baby screams, Mom takes opportunity to put more food in baby's mouth, baby likes it, and REPEAT.

After Dinner Delight

She's back

After two weeks of a cold, a virus and an ear infection, Hazel is finally starting to act like herself again.  This means lots of smiles and laughs.  To celebrate, she took her parents skiing at Mt. Hood Meadows on a brilliant sunny day.  Hazel kept watch over the bar while Mom and Dad took turns in Heather Canyon.  She made sure no one took any beer without paying.  Mom and Dad made sure the snow stayed fabulous.

Hazel goes to class

Hazel got to visit middle school today before her 6-month checkup. She scoffed at everything she saw and rudely exclaimed that she was SO much cooler than those silly children. And then she left and didn't even say bye to her mom.

Let's just say that adolescence does not become her.

Six month stats:
13 lbs. 11 oz.
Long body (Dad doesn't remember how long)
Still stubborn.

Hanging out with Grandma

Mom went back to work this week, so Grandma swooped in to help out and to see Hazel.  It was good timing- Hazel has had a virus that is kicking her butt plus an ear infection, so she skipped daycare on Monday.  Grandma didn't mind- word on the street is that Hazel was very cuddly.

Grandma sent these pictures to Mom to distract her during her work day.
