Sick Baby

Hazel spent her Saturday in Urgent Care getting a chest x-ray, an ear inspection, a blood test and a urine test.  Final diagnosis: ear infection.  She did get to wear a baby-size gown though.  That was pretty cool.

Why Daddy can't wait to get home from work

Hazel watches Daddy intently while he talks to Mimi on the phone.

Daddy shows Hazel how to chew- 26 times for meat, Hazel.

Up, up, up she goes!  Watch out for that ceiling!  And, no, this doesn't count as Daddy's weightlifting workout.  If Daddy can't lift 13 1/2 pounds, he has some issues anyway.

Hazel wants another go-round because she didn't puke the first time.

Lots of kisses for Baby Hazel.  Turns out she's quite kissable.  Who knew?

Obscene cuteness

Thanks Neighbor Sue for the awesome Columbia beret and the new clothes!

Well, good morning to you too!

This is how Hazel wakes up pretty much every morning.  She obviously does not take after her mother.

Swim class

Hazel started Baby Swim Class last week.  She has been in the pool since she was about 6 weeks old, but this is the first time she has been required to learn anything other than "this pool is awesome".
What Grandma calls the "Bathing Beauty Shot".  Hazel's bikini is courtesy of Grandma (of course!).  Hazel seems less than enthralled for her lesson.

Hazel watched all the other babies swim underwater and promptly informed Mom, "There is NO way I am going to do that.  NO. WAY."

Too late!  Under water she went.

And lived to scream about it, albeit briefly.

Hazel goes snowshoeing

Hazel went for her first trip in the backpack today and Mom is SO HAPPY.  She is tired of front carriers!  It was a beautiful day (50+ degrees!) and perfectly sunny on Mt. Hood, so Mom and Hazel headed up to Trillium Lake.

Hazel is skeptical of the backpack, as she is about most things.

Hazel takes a nap in the snow while Mom eats a snack.

AFTER Mom figured out to put her fleece jacket around Hazel so she would have somewhere to lay her head when she falls asleep.

Hazel still taking a nap upon return to the vehicle.

High chair

Hazel has a new seat- the high chair.  Mom and Dad keep exclaiming about how big she is getting.  Then, they put her in the high chair and realize that she's still their small baby!  As of today, she weighs exactly 13 pounds.  And all 13 pounds are wily and strong!

On a layover

Hazel does not like 4-hour layovers in Salt Lake City, but she puts on a brave smile for the camera anyway.

Hazel goes to Ouray

Ouray, Colorado is Mom and Dad's favorite town and they try to visit whenever they can.  Last year, Hazel was just a bunch of cells in Mom's stomach.  This year, she actually got to experience the Box Canyon Falls, watching the ice festival, warming up in a coffee shop and taking her first telemark turns on the town ski hill.

Yesterday, Hazel started sitting a little on her own.  Today, she sat for over a minute on Mom's lap.  This one is a quick learner.

Hazel reacts to the announcement that she can purchase a Telluride home for a cool million dollars.

This is how Hazel got to experience Box Canyon, the Ice Climbing Festival and telemark skiing: wrapped up in the Moby and Mom's jacket.

Hazel liked her first tele turns- she talked much of the way down the 100 ft. hill.  She had a lot to say because it was such a rad powder day.

Hazel likes Copper Mountain

Hazel made a breakthrough at Copper Mountain today: she can actually sit on her own for 5-10 seconds- using her arms for support of course.

Hazel tries to tell Daddy to turn the Crackberry off.  He's on vacation for crying out loud.

Mom reads the paper while Hazel flirts with passersby in the ski lodge.

Hazel pooped through her clothes (stupid disposable diapers- I hate them!) so we had to wrap her up in blankets for our family pic outside.

The whole family as Copper Mountain closes down operations for the day.

Ski Bunny

Hazel is learning all about ski lodges.  She has now hung out at Mt. Hood Meadows, Eldora, Loveland and Copper Mountain.  Today, Mom and Dad spent time with Hazel while her grandparents skied.  Then, they switched and Mom and Dad shredded the powder while the grandparents played with Hazel.  It was a win-win for everyone!

Getting ready to go skiing

When the thermometer outside reads 10 degrees and the windchill is somewhere below zero AND your parents drag you up to the ski resort, you kinda need to dress warm.

Hazel Visits Colorado

It's the Christmas that keeps on giving for baby Hazel and her family.  This week she's in Colorado for a visit with her grandparents in Estes Park and a ski trip to Summit County and Ouray.  Hazel barely fussed at all on the flight from Portland to Denver and seems to be handling the 8,000 foot elevation of her grandparents house better than her parents.

Daddy and Hazel go flying

On a jet plane.  Hazel is busy telling Daddy how much she loves to watch airplanes.  Daddy was more than pleased to hear this.
